I'd like to try a WIKI

Whew! The amount of information in the readings has been overwhelming. I believe I've found myself behaving like my students--trolling for information, rarely carefully reading a complete piece. Hey! I'm an academic. I'm used to reading everything analytically. Such a cultural change!

I teach English and Speech--only English this semester. I do not as yet have a concrete plan of how I want to use a WIKI, but I like the idea of collaboration. The most immediate application that comes to mind is using a WIKI as a backup if the H1N1 threat were to become real. Or, if I were in a computer classroom, I would use it for group work.

It would also allow groups to plan asynchronously for their team presentations--more efficiently than does Blackboard Discussion Board.

Of all of this week's links on WIKIs and Blogs, I most liked the video that using planning a camping trip to illustrate how effective a WIKI can be for collaboration.

I've started to ask my students what social networking options they would like to use for class. Next week, when I've got more data, I'll blog about that.
